Interview Piero Gilardi / Gianluca Cosmacini

By Francesco Luciani

The seductive and natural synergies between art and architecture are often printed on the indexes of books and programs on various biennials and conferences. Sometimes however, this Report imagined places, at other times defined utopian now become urgent. Mere containers left out of the building, designing spaces for workshops and new journeys to the art. The inauguration of the Pontifical Academy for Life-Living Art Park in Turin, the number of people agreed corresponds to social cues of the project, the architects of the Park Piero and Gianluca Gilardi Cosmacini who work from a hard-working and creative group work are projected forward. Interview on the future.

FL Let me start by his artistic career marked by frequent cross-cultural experiences. How much and how it interacts, Living Art in the Park, its ability to immerse themselves in the midst of the complexities of social life?

PG I would say that the Pontifical Academy for Life in its complexity and layering of functions and meanings, sums up most of my cross-cultural experiences: the hybridization with the ethical and political movements, the emergence of psychological problems and intrapersonal , the union with its new science post - Newtonian, particularly today, with the "life science" postgenica.

FL The current state of the world goes with urgency to re-read and re-training behaviors with respect to the environment and alternative sources of energy. Future of art as positions are associated with this state of affairs within the project PAV? PG The urgency of cultural change for effective conjugation anthroposphere with the other spheres of living-including technosphere is sought by a global area of artists, both inside and outside the art system. The PAV welcomes many experiences of bio / eco artists are not recognized by the system and then the art market. This is a task for all public institutions that in most cases, in my opinion play a complementary strategies of the global art market under the hegemony of New York.

If the causes of the impending environmental collapse are possible, all things being equal, global warning and the capitalist predation - neoliberalism - the biome is obvious that the bio / eco art must assume full knowledge of its ethical-political meaning, and not selling out on the market ideology of today's art system.

Certainly the PAV will provide ample space to the subjectivity of "bio-politics" of artists, putting them in terms of environmental social movements.

FL What reasons, she believes, are the basis of the crisis of traditional art institutions such as the possible landing sites 'others' for whom the art contemporary heads in recent years?

PG The heart of this crisis lies in changing the nature of art, namely the shift from production and social formations of high symbolic and aesthetic.

The museum today has to be spread not only generate energy but poetic, such as acceleration of processes of cultural transformation.

FL In the future, how will the artists in the report, the bio-architecture PAV and enjoyment of the public?

PG PAV The biome is virtually a whole, expressed through its architecture in an enclave of homeostasis human-environment and biodiversity in the heart of the urban metropolis of Turin alienated. The artists propose, through a preliminary "chaier de charge" a whole range of opportunities for collaborative social relationships in the local area, metropolitan and international route network.

FL I'd like to know, in his view, such best practices resulted from the work of interdisciplinary community that has been made operational for the birth of the Park 'Living Art?

GC The project, developed with the application of the subsidiarity principle, which principle is not only a management policy in governing the development of a city at a time historical reduction public expenditure, but also an anthropological principle. The centerpiece is the city with its civil and social rights and its relational ties. In the case of the PAV the subsidiarity principle is expressed in promoting the fulfillment of cultural needs of citizens and of people gathered in an "associate" that helped to finance the project with the infrastructure costs due to the city by private developers. Accordingly the project and its implementation process, the principle of sustainability are understood as a model of development compatible with the requirements of environmental protection and enhancement and conservation of resources. At design was adopted a methodology aimed at obtaining high values eco building.

The disciplines involved have created a sort of "bioarchiettura of the landscape" of the collaboration with Alessandro bioarchitetto Fassi.

FL I would like to ask you, with respect to the architectural design of the Pontifical Academy for Life, what factors have been the priority of the project and what impact is expected in the area?

GC addition to the bio-climatic and the use of its green building technologies, a priority of the project was the integration of architecture and places (landscape), a metaphor that involves neo-naturalistic also the relationships between architecture and art. Regarding the relationship between art and landscape, the park not organized a formal design, but is structured and timed with the processuality of living (people, animals, plants) that generates unexpected transformations and not determined a priori. The ongoing project seeks to respond to the stress and relationships with artists, their relations with the environment, with its constraints and potential, and with the public and commissions that define the social structure of the park.

FL What will be the role of PAV in the future about the relationship between art, architecture and evolution of social and cultural spaces?

GC element that can guarantee its future is the original cultural attractions, is its laboratory space, and its landscape in movement that evolves over time and reflects the outcome of the relationships that we build with social groups and the local people of Turin.
