[di'væn]

new subject

by Francesco Luciani

" di'væn" is the first act, in the form of exposure, the birth of the subject of artistic and cultural activity created from discussions held between the walls of the gallery Gianluca Collica. From the initial reflection on the "diwan" of the ancient Arabs, hence the word customs, the sofa on which they were entered into public affairs and private lands to be displayed in a place of encounter between individuals, peoples, civilizations and different interests. In response to continued exploration of the art research and deeper investigation, it materializes the need to implement a draft movement of knowledge and artistic experience by choosing the path of the plural subject and the construction of a connecting cultural geography. The principle approach and the exchange are the basis from which di'væn moves towards taking the value of the fragments and the fluidity of the processes that make up reality. Offer themselves as architects of the first exchange Federico Baronello, Canecapovolto, Filippo Leonardi, Carmelo Nicosia, Paolo Parisi, Peter Zuccaro. The languages \u200b\u200bconverge on a shared and implement the first phase di'væn laying the groundwork for the evolution of the new entity. The geography is given from the elements and plural identity of the works, ethical and aesthetic nations that concluded the moment of comparison, head to the dialogue that reveals a constant and urgent need of this. The person who identifies with this exposure is not new per se, but as a producer of relations arising from incomplete knowledge, partial, provisional and extreme, but so rich. Without independent knowledge and recognition that is sought to know as constantly changing and which art is an indispensable part, synthetic and constantly productive.

Federico Baronello lives and works in Catania. It is the fundamental clue a frantic search of tracks and signs in the landscape to elude their excessive exposure. Are brought to light the histories stored in the interstices of natural areas and human re-emerge in the contemporary increasingly saturated and dense. The research and language adhere to a process governed by a presumptive method of investigation and immersed in pure disenchantment.

Canecapovolto formed in Catania in 1992 and is composed by Alessandro Aiello, Enrico Aresu and Alessandro De Filippo. In an ongoing trial, supported by the use of various media such as film sound, video, installations, happenings, collages. The survey is the expressive power of the vision and the dynamics of perception, including original techniques for processing and image manipulation. Starting from experimental sound and initially linked to the short film in super-8, the group uses various audio-video production practices in the direction of "sabotage" of the media image of departure.

Filippo Leonardi lives in Catania and Torino. Central is the use of materials often in the context of design. The artist Catania gives rise to works that interact with the history of places, with people, with the surrounding space. One of the themes strongly connotative is the relationship between art and investigate natural environment from the paradoxes and contradictory social and newspapers in the direction of an open work that triggers an array of ethical consciousness.

Carmelo Nicosia lives in Catania and is considered one of the best-known representatives of the "new Italian photography." Founder of the group stage, his research is directed toward the documentation of the landscape and the relationships between this and the changes due to architectural projects and industrial facilities. He teaches design history and photography at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Catania.

Dal 1993 è docente presso l’Accademia of Fine Arts in Bologna. From 2001 to 2003 he collaborated in the teaching of laboratory techniques and artistic expression of Giulio Paolini at the Faculty of Arts and Design IUAV of Venice.

Piero Zuccaro lives and works in Catania. His painting is immersed in light and reflecting in the water signs and buildings that are directed toward new identities through the decomposition of the form and the conquest of the surrounding space. The expansion beyond the limits of space and lies in the form of paste-like visual reflections and refractions. Poetics of refraction invisible to the naked eye.
